Anthony Julianto from Alliance College named SA Trainer of the Year 2025

The South Australian Skills Alliance congratulates Anthony Julianto from Alliance College for winning the 2025 VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year at the South Australian Training Awards. The award is the highest honour in the state for vocational education and training excellence.

Anthony has more than 25 years of experience as a chef, pastry chef and educator. His career blends deep industry skill with a commitment to sustainable practice and respect for learners. His approach has been shaped by mentorship from notable industry figures, and he brings that ethos into his teaching.

Since 2022, Anthony has been with Alliance College, leading the domestic pilot of the Certificate III in Patisserie and designing high-quality learning and assessment resources in consultation with respected chefs. His work supports practical skill development and industry relevance for emerging chefs.

Anthony also founded Ed-Spectrum, a digital culinary platform that highlights the value of vocational education through storytelling, social media, research and some cheeky humour.

Ed Spectrum aims to increase curiosity outside the classroom and promote a love for the culinary world from the youngest age to someone more seasoned. Ed Spectrum for Anthony is an embodiment of where his career through culinary and VET has made him appreciate all other pathways in life, from science, history, philosophy, ethics and many more.

He promotes inclusive, curiosity-led learning and uses digital tools, including ethical AI, to meet changing learner needs in VET. Currently pursuing and tackling the challenges he has seen and faced through experience and discussion with student and colleagues alike. He is collaborating with AI Camp Adelaide to build short course and pushing for VET and AI initiatives through collaboration with the Skills SA.

Internally within the college Anthony is also embracing his new role as Education Innovation and Development Coordinator by creating the Alliance College Newsletter I.D.E.A.(Innovation | Development | Education |Alliance) an internal newsletter aimed at focusing on sharing small (kaizen),meaningful changes that improve quality, consistency, and efficiency in our day to-day work through AI or innovative training ideas.

Anthony is also collaborating with the Alliance team initiating the Alliance College podcast, another initiative to promote inclusive learning through audio. Inviting trainers, Industry professionals and mentors such as Simon Bryant, as well as students as part of an ongoing process of Industry consultation as well as bringing his love and respect of the craft of all things VET into the sound waves.

In the near future Anthony also aims to collaborate with and strengthen pathways for AIF-VET through conversation with SACE aiming to show mentoring initiatives of VET professionals to budding students in years11-12. Create collaborative work with World Chef- World Skill, Slow food SA and initiate and Alliance college lead culinary competitions focusing on waste and smart use of food in VET training.

Invited to sit in the Alliance College Learning and Teaching Committee (LTC) as well as the Sa Skills Commission Training Implementation and Delivery Committee (TIDC), Anthony hopes to continually grow, learn and share what he knows and what he has learn to the VET community and anyway he can.

The VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year award recognises outstanding trainers who deliver nationally accredited training and contribute to student success and industry impact. Winners from the South Australian Training Awards may go on to represent the state at the Australian Training Awards.

Anthony’s achievement reflects the strength of South Australia’s VET sector and its role in building a skilled workforce
